THAKSIN Shinawatra, the man currently negotiating to buy City, has been ordered to return to Thailand or face arrest.

The former Thai Prime Minister and his wife have been charged with concealing assets.

Thaksin was toppled by a bloodless coup last September, and has been targeted by several investigations into alleged corruption and abuse of power.
Police have ordered the exiled leader to return to Thailand and appear before them by June 29 or face arrest. He is currently living in London.

Department of Special Investigations Director-General Sunai Manomaiudom said police had strong evidence that Thaksin and his wife secretly held stock through nominee companies in SC Assets Corp. PLC, a Shinawatra family holding company.

Serving Thai Cabinet ministers are not generally allowed by law to hold shares in publicly listed companies. They are also required to reveal their assets, including stockholdings.

The police are charging Thaksin with violations on both counts when he was Prime Minister.

Surely this must now be the end of the line for Shinawatra. The facts are that even without a proposed take-over we are now an established Premiership Club. We will receive a substantial sum from the new deal. We have a state of the art Stadium with average crowds of 40K plus. We have a squad which contains several current international players. We are also told by Mr Wardle that there is a substantial Transfer Fund available. So what's the problem ? Everything should already be in place for City to appoint a top (yes, a TOP) coach. Regrettably though, we are the only Club in the Premiership without a Manager (and it seems without a confirmed pre-season programme & we're almost into July). Get someone in to take this Club forward. No Warnock, Souness, Coleman et al. Get someone with vision and credibility and pay the going rate. They are out there, you know, and I'm sure there must be plenty who would jump at the opportunity in spite of the present PR shambles. This must be sorted out NOW.

Consequently, the Tribunal voted 6 to 3 to revoke the electoral rights of the executives of the Thai Rak Thai Party for five years in accordance with the law.

All the details of how and on what bases the judges made their rulings were read out and broadcast live nationwide for 10 hours reflecting full transparency.  Although some may question the decision made by the Constitution Tribunal, its decision must be respected as is the case in all civilized and democratic societies.   Indeed, if a political party were to be found guilty by a court of law in a similar case in other countries, should that political party be allowed to go free?  Or should its executives be held accountable and bear the consequences of their actions in accordance with the law?
It should also be underscored that the whole cases against the political parties began during the period of the 2 April 2006 general election when complaints of wrong doings by political parties were filed with the electoral authorities. The Attorney-General formally submitted the cases to the Constitutional Court in July 2006 – well before the political change that took place on 19 September.  Indeed, one should add that the April election itself, claimed by some to be democratic, was annulled by the preceding ruling of the Constitutional Court on 8 May 2006 as the Court found that the flaws and irregularities of how it was organized resulted in unfair and undemocratic outcomes, making the election unconstitutional.

Some sites are reporting that Thaksin has interviewed Eriksson. That would be a big mistake. People have hardly been queuing for this joker. Lets tell Thaksin you've messed about too much. We dont believe a word of it.

THAKSIN Shinawatra may have to face a 'fit and proper person' test before completing a takeover of Manchester City.

The former Thai prime minister, who is facing corruption charges in Thailand, has tabled an £81.6m takeover bid for City.

And Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson told BBC Radio Five Live: "We have a fit and proper person test which is based on objective criteria, there is a schedule of offences which does also reflect any offences that someone has been prosecuted for overseas as well.

"It is a tricky one because he hasn't been prosecuted of anything yet, and also we are a football competition.

"We sit in a hierarchy of regulation and if the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry), the Government, say this guy is okay to come in and purchase UK companies then that is really where we've got to be starting."

Asked whether the situation would change should Shinawatra be found guilty of the charges he is facing, Johnson said: "That would be something we would have to look at."

The first formal charges lodged against the exiled former premier came in Thailand earlier today.

Thaksin's wife was also named in the case, which involves allegations of wrongdoing in a land deal.

The attorney general's office recommended that officials seize the 13.2 acre plot of land, valued at 772 million baht (£12 million).

The Thai Supreme Court will decide on July 10 if they will hear the case.

Thaksin has been living overseas since he was overthrown in a military coup in September while he was abroad.
