Their job is to determine how to sway politicians to vote on legislation in a way that favors the interest group being represented. They must be able to tailor their appeals to specific goals while working with would-be opponents and interested others.
Lobbyists may work directly with politicians, providing information and research on various issues relating to proposed legislation. As proficient researchers, they must be able to create succinct informative presentations. Positions in this career can range in status from low to high profile. Lobbyists often devote large amounts of time and energy to one specific cause. Long hours, fundraising, demonstrations and other similar activities are common. Many Lobbyists enter this career with sincere dedication and passion for affecting change. Successful Lobbyists have excellent networking skills allowing them to communicate effectively with persons from all societal levels.
