Every morning, students learning first-year Chinese follow a tradition as old as Confucius. When their teacher, Lily Gao, walks in the classroom, they stand and greet her. Lao shi zao! (Good morning, teacher!) Gao isn’t in China. She teaches in the Lee’s Summit School District and is one of a few teachers in Missouri and Kansas sent by Hanban, a Chinese government agency, to promote the Chinese language and culture worldwide.

OHIO

ZANESVILLE - Students at Bishop Fenwick Catholic School will be the first in the county to learn Mandarin Chinese when its offered next school year to the then sixth-grade class. For 40 minutes each school day, the roughly 40 students will learn to speak Mandarin Chinese and learn of Chinese culture in the class.

OREGON

Katie Stern-Stillinger of Westmoreland was one of only eleven children recently to pass a Chinese government proficiency test normally administered to adults. The test (called “HSK”, for its Chinese initials) serves as a requirement to enter university in China as an undergraduate student, and is used by employers in China for positions requiring basic competence in Chinese. The HSK test is likened to the Test of English as a Foreign Language in the United States.


MASSACHUSETTS

The Massachusetts Board of Education has given the green light to the state's first charter school with classes taught mostly in Chinese. The panel voted seven to two at their meeting Tuesday in Malden to grant a charter for the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion School. The charter school has approval to open this fall. It will serve up to 300 students, kindergarten through eighth grade, from Springfield and dozens of other cities in western Massachusetts.

Lei Yang stood in the middle of 15 sixth- and seventh-graders at Mandarin Middle School Feb. 22, trying to get their young brains around a language he has known since birth. At 26, the wiry man is Duval County's first Chinese guest teacher, working with students at Mandarin's middle and high schools on their language skills. This day, his tongxue zaijin (people who study together, or class) needed to perfect the pronunciation of the correct greeting to offer another teacher.

วันนี้เป็นวันส่งท้ายเทศกาลตรุษจีนอย่างเป็นทางการ ใครเปิด CCTV-4 มีฝรั่งทั้ง อเมริกัน แคเนเดี้ยน(ทั้งอังกฤษและฝรั่งเศส) อินเดีย เกาหลี เบลเยี่ยม ฝรั่งเศส อังกฤษ เยอรมัน ตุรกี ปากีสถาน ฯลฯ  ออกมาร้องเพลงทั้งแบบงิ้ว และป๊อป และมีการ rap เป็นภาษาจีน  เสียงพิธีกรหญิงพูดจีนดังขึ้นก็งั้นๆ หันไปดูอีกทีกลายเป็นฝรั่งผมบลอนด์ถือไมค์ออกมาบอกว่าตัวเองเป็นพิธีกร

วันนี้อ.อัษฎางค์ ปาณิกบุตร ก็ออกทาง ASTV-5 วิเคราะห์เหตการณ์บ้านเมือง แต่ตอนท้ายท่านแถมว่า คนไทยควรเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษและจีนให้แตกฉานแต่บัดนี้

ผู้ใหญ่เล่าว่า รัฐบาลไทยในสมัยหนึ่งและสมัยต่อมา ใช้วิธีปล่อยให้โรงเรียนสอนภาษาจีนในบ้านเราค่อย ๆ ตายไป ถ้าไม่ตายก็เลี้ยงไม่โต จนเป็นที่มาของคำพูดประโยคหนึ่งที่แฝงไว้ด้วยความน่าอัปยศอดสูคือ เรียบร้อยโรงเรียนจีน

แม้แต่หม่อมป้าคึกฤทธิ์เคยพูดเชิงเยาะเย้ยไว้ทำนองว่า เมืองจีนจะมีอะไร นอกจากผลสมอ  :mozilla_yell:


ไม่ได้ดูรายการนี้ค่ะ แต่เห็นหลายรายการที่เชิญนักศึกษานานาชาติมาร่วมแสดงความสามารถ เช่น ร้องเพลงจีน แสดงอุปรากรจีน ฯลฯ เก่ง ๆ กันทั้งนั้น โดยเฉพาะหนุ่มผมสีน้ำตาลดำชาวอังกฤษที่ใช้ชื่อจีนเรียกตัวเองว่า ต้าหนิว สุดยอดมากทั้งเป็นพิธีกร ทั้งจัดรายการ ทั้งแสดงร่วมด้วย  :slime_v:
